Anonymous asked: When fasting or starving, the brain uses ketone bodies for fuel. The use of ketone bodies for the brain is obviously unnatural, as its normal source of fuel is glucose. As more and more days for the fasting/starvation go on, the brain begins to depend more and more on this unnatural source of energy. During Jesus's fast for 40 days in the desert, do you think it is possible that his tempting by Satan was actually a hallucination due to lack of fuel for the brain?

Haha this is a really interesting twist. But I can answer this question as I was on the Cyclical Ketogenic Diet for about a year in 2010. Obviously I wasn’t fasting throughout the time, but I can personally assure you no form of hallucination happens during such diets. I actually at one point went for 3 weeks without doing a refeed/carb-up. Moreover, Ketones may no longer be our source of energy in modern day, yet you’ll be surprised to know our bodies were actually originally meant to run on ketones (think paleolithic/non-agricultural societies with little access to carbs and mainly animals/fats). That’s probably why ketogenic diets are so effective and can be considered healthy long-term diets. Their benefits vary from curing narcolepsy, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, and easily dropping body fat while maintaining muscle mass (the main reason I did it).

But, let’s take a step back and really analyze your question on a broader spectrum. Put in another way, basically your question is, “Do you believe the Bible should be taken as God’s word and revelation to the world?” The answer is an overwhelming “Yes.”

How can I be so sure? Are you curious?

Then, come and see.
